Left: Freshman Herald, Right: Obituary
The Class has learned that Frank died March 3, 2021, in Oakland, California.
Frank came to Princeton from Barrington, Rhode Island, after graduating from Barrington High School, where he excelled in basketball. In 1961, he was named to the Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Association All State Team. At Princeton, Frank played on the freshman basketball team.
In our sophomore year, Frank roomed in Holder Hall with a group that included Roger Evans, Bob Baughan, Tom Anderson, Jim Beverley, and Dick Lowenstein.
Frank left Princeton in the spring of that year. He later enrolled at Bowdoin College, graduating in 1967. Click here for his Bowdoin obituary.
After Bowdoin, Frank enlisted in the Navy and served as an officer in Southeast Asia. Following an honorable discharge in San Diego, he remained in California and worked as a personnel manager for the Coast Guard.
According to his obituary in the San Francisco Chronicle, he loved sports, especially baseball, basketball, golf, and beach volleyball.
Frank’s wife, Kathryn Asbury Eighme, predeceased him. He is survived by his brothers, Scott and Greg; nephews, Justin and Maurice; and stepsons, Dennis and Mark Dease.
Classmate Memories and Tributes
Bill Kelley:
Sorry to hear about Frank- He was a strong rebounder on our freshman team that was lacking in height. He was tough under the basket and had "big hands". He was also funny and most memorable for his antics at mimicking (every day in practise) the Three Stooges -- Larry, Moe, and Curly.
Ken Anderson, Bowdoin College ‘68:
Frank played an important part in the lives of a number of fraternity brothers a year behind him. Over the course of the 1965-1066 academic year, he pointed that there was a war going on in Vietnam and that he was going to avoid being drafted by joining the Navy. He had learned of the ROC, reserve officer candidate, program which required OCS, three years active duty and three years reserve. I remember driving from Brunswick to Augusta with Frank’s enormous hand and fingers tapping along with the Four Tops, sugar pie honey bunch. Bruce Locke and I as well as Dick Berry and Kent Mohnkern all served in Navy. Thank you, Frank.
