On May 2, 2021, the class learned of Dick's recent death. The news comes through Carl Corey from Dick's double cousin, David Low '64, that "Dick has died in the last couple of days. He lived in Salem, MA where he recently moved from Hamilton, MA; and as of now I have no other information."
Carl adds, "Dick was a four year member of the Tigertones, played hockey, had a lengthy career in banking with an emphasis on foreign trade, including a pretty long stint in Saudi, and was unwary enough to let me entice him to the Board of Revels, Inc in Watertown/Cambridge, where he served several years as treasurer cleaning up the mess left by the ‘Great Recession’. His wife is Joan (Joanie) and he has two children, Thomas and Vivien, and a grandson Oliver. Dick was the younger brother of Bobby or Robert Low '63, who lives just outside Burlington, VT where he is a professor emeritus at UVM."
Dick attended Deerfield and, like his father (Merritt Low '29), brother, uncle, and two cousins, went to Princeton. He majored in Chemistry and was a member of Quad and the Tigertones. Immediately after Princeton, Dick served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant and later earned his M.B.A. from Harvard.
Most recently, Dick wrote in his Class Directory profile, "Am retired following a career in banking that took us to Denver, Hong Kong, and Riyadh. Have remained active as a community volunteer that included serving on the Board of Selectmen in the town where we were living at the time. We “downsized” and sold our home in Hamilton, MA two years ago and very much enjoy adjusting to our new surroundings and living in Salem."
Much more about Dick's live is in his obituary from the Salem News.
A memorial event is being planned for this summer. Please respond to the webmaster (jmhart62@gmail.com) if you wish to be notified when more information is available.
