CLASS OF 1966

GARY WILLIAM GILBERT

Gary died on January 27, 2015, in the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, not far from his home in Hollis, New Hampshire.  He had battled cancer for three years.

A lifelong New Hampshire resident, Gary was captain of the football and baseball teams at Nashua High and was All-State in football.  He continued with both sports at Princeton, at the freshman and varsity levels.  He majored in economics and belonged to Cannon Club.

After graduation Gary enlisted in the Army, serving four year as a lieutenant in Germany. Returning to New Hampshire, he joined his father and brother at the New England Division of Penn Box.  More recently, he was New York manager of Treen Box & Pallet Corp.

An active sportsman his entire life, Gary enjoyed golf and curling and coached his son’s baseball team and daughter’s softball team. He found time to serve on the governing boards of a number of charitable and community organizations.  Despite illness, he joined his former Princeton football teammates for the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the undefeated 1964 season.

Gary leaves Lois, his wife of 47 years; son Mark; daughter Susan; sister Ellen; brother Bruce; and six grandchildren.  The class extends its sympathy to them.
