ANTHONY JOHNSON McEWAN

Tony McEwan died June 6 after a long illness. Tony came to Princeton from Phillips Exeter Academy. At Princeton he lettered in lacrosse, was on the rugby squad, and played on Cannon Club’s hockey team in interclub competition. An aeronautical engineering major, he roomed with Carl Feldbaum, Bill Johnson, Nelson Hendler, Tom Unterman, and Sankey Williams.

Tony arrived at Princeton with career plans already precisely formulated. He wanted to be an aeronautical engineer; he wanted to retire on December 31, 1999. And that’s exactly what he did. He joined Northrup and enjoyed an illustrious engineering career there until December 31, 1999, when he retired from active employment. 

After retirement, he continued to reside in Malibu, with a view of the ocean on one side of his home and mountains on the other. He devoted himself to handling his investments and to the outdoors. One year he clocked 59 days on the ski slopes. Tony never married. He is survived by his partner, Denise Ferris. In recent years he suffered several strokes, attributed to a congenital heart defect.

We lost a good man and a good friend when Tony died. The Class extends its sympathy to Denise and to Tony’s family.
